Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: Best Thanksgiving Wishes!

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow. [Melody Beattie]

As we approach Thanksgiving Day, the vendors and management team of the Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market want to thank you for a wonderful 2016 season and wish you and your loved ones, a safe, happy Thanksgiving weekend. With Gratitude.

Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: Small Business Saturday

Like any farmers' market in the world, the Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market is, simply stated, a gathering of small businesses (farmers, growers, and food artisans) supported by their customers and communities.

This Saturday, November 26th, is Small Business Saturday across America. Buying local and supporting small businesses (in person and online) has a tremendous impact. According to a recent Fortune Magazine article on Small Business Saturday: "In 2015, approximately 1.3 million small businesses participated in the event, as did 95 million consumers." Tremendous indeed.

As this season of giving, eating, drinking, and merriment approaches, thank you for supporting small business!

Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: October 26th Market Report

The leaves fall, the wind blows, and the farm country slowly changes from the summer cottons into its winter wools. [Henry Beston]

Another nice autumn day in Uptown Westerville, and a great day to visit a farmers' market. We are looking forward to an afternoon with partly cloudy skies, temperatures in the 50's, with a breeze, and no chance of rain.

Today is the last farmers' market of the 2016 season.

This season's guiding words of wisdom come from Chef Bryant Terry: What makes a farmers' market such a special place, is that you're actually creating community around food.

Each season, this market becomes a community. It happens organically, it's just this great energy that arrives, converges, and causes something incredible, beneficial, and meaningful to happen. On behalf of the Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market Management Team and Vendors, Thank You for participating in this market community!

We end this season with a market-lite day. This week's Vendor Line-up includes: Bird's Haven Farms, Pleiades Maple Products, Miss Cristy's Bakery, Sweet Thing Gourmet, Montezuma Sauces and Salsas, Lona Belle's Home Baked Goods, Hinton Apiaries, and Flying J Farm.

This week's community partner is Westerville Public Library.

Home grown. Home Made. All Ohio. 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. @ N. State and E. Home Streets.

See you at the market!

Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: Treat or Treat

Vegetables are a must on a diet. I suggest carrot cake, zucchini bread, and pumpkin pie. - Jim Davis (Garfield)

This week's market is the last market of the season, right before Midnight Madness (10.28) and Westerville's Beggars' Night (10.31), so time to test drive this year's costumes for Treat or Treat at Market Wednesday! It's the one day of the year that princesses, super heroes, storm troopers, and dinosaurs walk among ordinary citizens at the farmers' market. Kids can dress up for Halloween and go "door-to-door" to visit each vendor for Halloween candy!

And, Pleiades Maple Products has a special treat - kids can stop by for a free small maple sucker.

While supplies last. Treats are for little kids. Costumes optional.

Thanks to photographer Gary Gardiner for this awesome vintage memory of Mary Poppins (Sugar B Bakery's Angela Bowman) hangin' out with a couple fierce and fabulous princesses in 2014.

Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: Sugar B Bakery Bids Us Adieu

Life happens. Nature happens. Farming happens. In Westerville, we have a small farmers' market that has become a big family. Informed by the experiences of our vendors and customers, we embrace and accept the organic ebbs and flows of life. Sometimes it's embracing a beautiful day or biting into an indescribably delicious and juicy peach, and sometimes, it's a rubber-duck-worthy rainy day, the loss of a loved one (my Dad, Les, passed away a week before the start of market season), or a flower crop that can't thrive in the elements of the season.

This market features an exceptional group of talented and passionate vendors who make a family. One of our family members is leaving us - Angela Bowman of Sugar B Bakery - she's moving out-of-state - and we will miss not only her delicious breads, scones, and bagels, but we will miss her infectious sense of humor, her loud voice at market open (what megaphone?!!), and her energy and presence at Market Wednesday.

Angela is just an exceptional human being and we have all been enriched and buoyed by her presence at the market.

Safe travels, Angela, may the winds be with you always. You are always part of the Market Wedesday family. We hope - I hope - you'll be able to make a trip or two or three... to Westerville in the coming seasons to stop by and visit! With good thoughts and so much love.  -Linda.

Linda Foor,
Market Manager,
Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market

Here is Angela's Message:

Yesterday was a bittersweet day. It was the last Uptown Westerville
Farmers Market for me (there is still one more). For those of you that don't know, my husband has taken a job in Michigan so we are starting a new adventure there in the next few weeks.

As I close this chapter of my life I am reminded of how many truly dear friends I have made here and I am eternally grateful to you all. I'm going to miss you more than I can say but I am taking a piece of each of you with me forever. You have given me confidence to continue to grow my business and great memories that have flooded my life with constant joy for 6 years.Your support and encouragement have been a great part of our success. Thank you all!

Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: September 28th Market Report

I've learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights. [Maya Angelou]

It's a farm fresh Wednesday in Uptown Westerville!

Today, we move from the sunny, humid days of summer to the cool, cloudy skies of fall. Even though the forecast keeps improving, this may end up being a "puddle-jumper" market with occasional periods of rain.
Showers in the forecast for market hours (currently... 53% chance of rain for market set up, a 49% chance of rain from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and a 65% chance of rain from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.), cooler, pleasant temperatures in the low-to-mid 60s, cloudy, and a breeze.

Market Wednesday is a shower or shine market, and all vendors are under-cover, so we hope you'll pack your umbrella, gollashes, or slicker, and come on by!

This week's vendor line-up includes: Fox Hollow Garden, J-Pops, Lona Belle's Home Baked Goods, Hinton Apiaries, Flying J Farm, Bird's Haven Farms, Branstool Orchards, Pleiades Maple Products, Miss Cristy's Bakery, Sweet Thing Gourmet, Montezuma Sauces and Salsas, Sugar B Bakery, and Sippel Family Farm/Kokoborrego Cheese Co.

We will not see Annabelle's Blooms today.

Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: August 3rd Market Report

It was one of those humid days when the atmosphere gets confused. Sitting on the porch, you could feel it: the air wishing it was water. [Jeffrey Eugenides]

Welcome to the first Market Wednesday of August.

Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: Westerville's 2016 Independence Day: Friends, Fireworks and Freedom

You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism. [Erma Bombeck]

Happy Birthday America!

Here's what's up in Westerville:

Westerville Rotary presents Friends, Fireworks and Freedom:

First, PARADE ROUTE CHANGE! Just like the old small town USA Pepsi commercial, the parade starts at St. Paul's and heads SOUTH on State Street to Electric Avenue. (A direction change and shortened route due to the construction on S. State.)

8:00 a.m.: Westerville Rotary July 4th Walk-Run. There is a children's run at 9:15 a.m. Early same-day registration @ 6:45 a.m. Alum Creek Park North, 225 W. Main.

More info and links: https://westervillerotary.com/Rotary_July_4th_Road_Run.html

This run honors Westerville's Agnes Meyer Driscoll. If you don't know about her, you should. She was a cryptologist and played a crucial role in breaking unbreakable codes, during World War II.

1:00 p.m.: Parade!! The parade route runs south on State Street from St. Paul's to Electric Avenue.

Bring canned and boxed food items for the WARM (Westerville Area Resource Ministry) Community Food Drive, which will be collected along the route. Visit www.warmwesterville.org for a list of needed items.

3:00 p.m.: Food, Fun, and Music at Westerville South High School (303 S. Otterbein Ave.)

3:00 -10:00 p.m. Food trucks and carts!
3:30 p.m.: Westerville Symphony
5:00 p.m.: Musician John Reichle
6:15 p.m.: Hurricane Jerry & the Stormfront
8:00 p.m:. McGuffey Lane

The road to success is dotted by many tempting parking spaces. [Will Rogers]

Like the market space, Westerville South is located in a residential neighborhood. Please note posted parking restrictions in the area surrounding Westerville South High School for emergency vehicle and neighborhood access.

Note: Due to construction, the intersection @ E. Walnut and Otterbein Ave. has a lot going on - eastbound E. Walnut is closed east of Otterbein, as is E. Park St.; lanes can be restricted, and northbound Otterbein features a trench-style depression in the road surface just before the intersection.

10:00 p.m. Boy Howdy! Fireworks!!!

Fireworks are launched from Alum Creek Park South near Park Meadow Road and Schrock Road, and can be seen from multiple locations around the City.

The fireworks display will be simulcast with 104.9 The River. For timing updates, follow the City of Westerville Twitter account: @tellwesterville.

Huge shout out to Rotary Club of Westerville! Learn more: https://westervillerotary.com/

Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: June 22nd Market Report

Summer is a period of luxurious growth. To be in harmony with the atmosphere of summer, awaken early in the morning and reach to the sun for nourishment to flourish as the gardens do. Work, play, travel, be joyful, and grow into selfless service. The bounty of the outside world enters and enlivens us. [Paul Pitchford]

Welcome to the first Market Wednesday of Summer!

Today's vendor line-up: Lona Belle's Home Baked Goods, Doran's Family Farm, Hinton Apiaries, Flying J Farm, Bird's Haven Farms, Fox Hollow Farm, Pleiades Maple Products, Miss Cristy’s Bakery, Sweet Thing Gourmet, Montezuma Sauces and Salsas, Sugar B Bakery, Sippel Family Farm/Kokoborrego Cheese Co., 8 Sisters Bakery, and Fox Hollow Garden.

We will not see J-Pops this week (Steve will be back next week). And, Ohio Farm Direct is out.

This week's community partner is Westerville Public Library.

What produce can you find at the market today? Beets, radishes, swiss chard, kale, lettuce, turnips, sugar snap peas, cucumbers, and summer squash.

Artisan foods include hummus, fresh-baked bagels, bread, scones, cookies, pies & pastries, sheep's milk & cow's milk cheese, honey, maple syrup, jam, biscotti, salsas, hot sauce, and tortilla chips.

Market meats are available at Flying J Farm (grass-fed beef), Fox Hollow Farm (pasture-raised beef, pork, lamb, and chicken), and Sippel Family Farm/Kokoborrego Cheese Co. (lamb, grass-fed beef, whey-fed pork).

There may be fresh eggs available at Fox Hollow Farm. Jesse Rickard of Fox Hollow Farm recommends ordering eggs ahead of time online (so easy) to be sure.

Today's market weather report features cloudy skies, temperatures in the mid 70s (the elevated humidity pushes the "feels like" temps up to a muggy 5° to 6° higher), and a light breeze.

Right now, the forecast has changed from earlier this morning to only an elevated chance of rain (44%) between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: June 15th Market Report

Weather forecast for tonight: dark. [George Carlin]

Today's weather? It's an adventure! We'll just do what we always do - we'll watch the radar, and roll along and adapt! Our vendors are all under-cover, and whether it's a puddle-jumping shop and dash, or a chance to linger and enjoy conversations and sample new or favorite flavors, we hope you'll stop by for a bit.

No way around it, we are looking at a typical Ohio summer forecast today - hot, humid, and a chance of isolated thunderstorms. Temperatures will be in the mid-80s and, with the humidity, the feels like will feel above 90°.

There is a light breeze expected, but we don't know if it will be sustaining or intermittent.

There is rain in the forecast, at this point, for this week's market, so let's just go hour to hour: from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.: 51% chance of rain; from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.: a 47% chance of rain; from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.: a 17% chance of rain.

This week's Vendor line-up includes: Fox Hollow Garden, Lona Belle's Home Baked Goods, Doran's Family Farm, Hinton Apiaries, Flying J Farm, Bird's Haven Farms, Fox Hollow Farm, Miss Cristy’s Bakery, Sweet Thing Gourmet, Montezuma Sauces and Salsas, Sugar B Bakery, and Sippel Family Farm/Kokoborrego Cheese Co.

We may see 8 Sisters Bakery and Ohio Farm Direct.

Pleiades Maple Products and J-Pops will not be at-market this week. (J-Pops will also be out next week.)

This week's community partners are Westerville Electric Division and Westerville Water Division - their appearance will be weather-dependent.

What produce can you expect at market this week? Beets (check out the golden beets), greens of all kinds, radishes, sugar snap peas, turnips, onions, garlic scapes, and cucumbers. We should see some strawberries, as well.

Each Wednesday, Meza Wine Shop, 48 N. State, just steps south of the market features a specially-priced Market Wednesday cocktail served during market hours. What wine goes with some Kokoborrego sheep's milk cheese? Just ask!

Market Wednesday is a rain or shine market, but not a storm or shine market, so we'll keep our eyes glued to the weather radar on our smart phones, and if we need to suspend market activity, we won't hesitate.  Any updates will be posted, here, on facebook.

Home grown. Home made. All Ohio. Wednesdays, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., through October 26th @ N. State and E. Home Streets in Uptown Westerville.

Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: June 1st Market Report

I love berries. Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, black berries, anything with an 'errie' in it! [Jordin Sparks]

It's a very good day to pick up a little farm fresh in Uptown Westerville.

We like a weather forecast that starts out with the words "periods of sun" with no chance of precipitation. With that said, we are headed for a classic, summery afternoon with temps in the mid-to-high 80s, elevated humidity, and a very light breeze.

Today's Market Wednesday vendor line-up: Montezuma Sauces and Salsas, Sugar B Bakery, Bildsten Landscape, 8 Sisters Bakery, Fox Hollow Garden, J-Pops, Lona Belle's Home Baked Goods, Doran's Family Farm, Hinton Apiaries, Ohio Farm Direct, Bird's Haven Farms, Fox Hollow Farm, Pleiades Maple Products, Miss Cristy’s Bakery, Sweet Thing Gourmet.

Market Wednesday's Vendor Mentoring program vendor, Fox Hollow Garden, will open for business today for the first time. Fox Hollow Garden features hummus and greens. Stop on by to meet David Kelly, and welcome him to Market Wednesday!

Life Happens. Nature Happens. Farming Happens. Sippel Family Farm/Kokoborrego Cheese Co. and Flying J Farm will not be at-market today - they both have to take advantage of the weather by getting work done on the farm (planting, baling, and hauling).

This week’s community partner is Westerville Senior Center.

A Market Wednesday tradition: just steps south of the market at 48 N State, each Wednesday, during market hours, Meza Wine Shop features a specially-priced cocktail. Meza is a great resource for wine pairing ideas for you market fare.

Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: Fox Hollow Garden, A Market Mentor Vendor

Welcome, Market Wednesday's Vendor Mentor Program vendor, David Kelly, of Fox Hollow Garden, featuring greens and artisan hummus.

The Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market is test-driving a brand new program this yearI

This market has a great group of experienced vendors, all of whom had to start somewhere!

With the Market Vendor Mentor Program, people who are new to farming, artisan foods, and farmers' markets can enter an atmosphere that will give them a step-up on the ins-and-outs of coming to market.

Participants have an opportunity to learn by immersion for a market season - diving into an active market and learning from both on-the-fly experiences and veteran vendors.

Veteran Market Wednesday vendors can nominate a new vendor for this program. This season, Market Wednesday welcomes David Kelly of Fox Hollow Garden, mentored by veteran vendor, Fox Hollow Farm.

Stop on by and meet David Kelly at today's market!

Market Wednesday suggests bringing a cooler - market meats and J-Pops are sold frozen, and eggs and dairy products are sold refrigerated, and a cooler will help produce travel well on hot summer days.

Bird’s Haven Farms and Doran’s Family Farm accept WIC (USDA) Farmers’ Market Program Coupons and LifeCare Alliance Senior Farmers’ Market Program (USDA) Coupons.

Delaware County Senior Farmers’ Market program coupons are only valid at Delaware County farmers’ markets in Powell, Sunbury, and Delaware.

The Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market is a rain shower or shine market, but will suspend activity in case of severe weather conditions.

In-lot and on-street free parking is available near the market and throughout Uptown Westerville. There is bike-friendly parking in Rotary Park at the southeast corner of N. State and E. Home Streets, right across from the market space.

The market has no official mailing address, but for GPS needs, travelers can reference 62 N. State Street, Westerville, Ohio, 43081.
