Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: July 20th Market Report

I have a love affair with tomatoes and corn. I remember them from my childhood. I only had them in the summer. They were extraordinary. [Alice Waters, Chef]

While it may feel hot this week, we have a picturesque summer's day ahead.  So, put on your coolest cool, and come join us in Uptown Westerville for a little farm fresh.

The good news is that there is no precipitation and lower humidity in the forecast this week. Forecasts call for temperatures in the mid-to-high 80's with a "feels like" running ten degrees higher than the thermometer, and a 4 mph wind.

Today's vendor line-up includes: Bird's Haven Farm, Fox Hollow Farm, Branstool Orchards, The Blueberry Patch, Miss Cristy's Bakery, Montezuma Sauces and Salsas, Sugar B Bakery, Sippel Family Farm/Kokoborrego Cheese Co., Annabelle's Blooms, Fox Hollow Garden, J-Pops, Lona Belle's Home Baked Goods, and Doran's Family Farm.

This week's community partners are Westerville Electric Division and Westerville Water Division.

We have some vendors out this week: Pleiades Maple, Hinton Apiaries, and Flying J Farm.

8 Sisters Bakery presence at market depends on staffing, so we may or may not see them this week. We'll let you know as soon as we know.

3 p.m. to 6 p.m. @ N. State and E. Home Streets through October 26th.

See you at the market.

Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: July 13th Market Report

It ain’t the heat, it’s the humility. [Yogi Berra]

Well, it's going to be a hot, humid afternoon in Uptown Westerville. This kind of weather helps Market Wednesday farmers bring a richer variety of locally-grown summer vegetables and fruits to market, and inspires Anna Brown's beautiful flowers to bloom.

Today's vendor line-up includes: Flying J Farm, Bird's Haven Farm, Fox Hollow Farm, Branstool Orchards, The Blueberry Patch, Miss Cristy's Bakery, Montezuma Sauces and Salsas, Sippel Family Farm/Kokoborrego Cheese Co., Anabelle's Blooms, Fox Hollow Garden, J-Pops, Lona Belle's Home Baked Goods, Doran's Family Farm, and Hinton Apiaries.

This week's community partner is Westerville Police Division.

Life happens. Nature happens. Farming happens. (Especially in 26 weeks of a market season!) We have some vendors out this week: Sugar B Bakery, Pleiades Maple, and Sweet Thing Gourmet.

Home grown. Home made. All Ohio. 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. @ N. State and E. Home Streets through October 26th.

Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: Westerville's 2016 Independence Day: Friends, Fireworks and Freedom

You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism. [Erma Bombeck]

Happy Birthday America!

Here's what's up in Westerville:

Westerville Rotary presents Friends, Fireworks and Freedom:

First, PARADE ROUTE CHANGE! Just like the old small town USA Pepsi commercial, the parade starts at St. Paul's and heads SOUTH on State Street to Electric Avenue. (A direction change and shortened route due to the construction on S. State.)

8:00 a.m.: Westerville Rotary July 4th Walk-Run. There is a children's run at 9:15 a.m. Early same-day registration @ 6:45 a.m. Alum Creek Park North, 225 W. Main.

More info and links: https://westervillerotary.com/Rotary_July_4th_Road_Run.html

This run honors Westerville's Agnes Meyer Driscoll. If you don't know about her, you should. She was a cryptologist and played a crucial role in breaking unbreakable codes, during World War II.

1:00 p.m.: Parade!! The parade route runs south on State Street from St. Paul's to Electric Avenue.

Bring canned and boxed food items for the WARM (Westerville Area Resource Ministry) Community Food Drive, which will be collected along the route. Visit www.warmwesterville.org for a list of needed items.

3:00 p.m.: Food, Fun, and Music at Westerville South High School (303 S. Otterbein Ave.)

3:00 -10:00 p.m. Food trucks and carts!
3:30 p.m.: Westerville Symphony
5:00 p.m.: Musician John Reichle
6:15 p.m.: Hurricane Jerry & the Stormfront
8:00 p.m:. McGuffey Lane

The road to success is dotted by many tempting parking spaces. [Will Rogers]

Like the market space, Westerville South is located in a residential neighborhood. Please note posted parking restrictions in the area surrounding Westerville South High School for emergency vehicle and neighborhood access.

Note: Due to construction, the intersection @ E. Walnut and Otterbein Ave. has a lot going on - eastbound E. Walnut is closed east of Otterbein, as is E. Park St.; lanes can be restricted, and northbound Otterbein features a trench-style depression in the road surface just before the intersection.

10:00 p.m. Boy Howdy! Fireworks!!!

Fireworks are launched from Alum Creek Park South near Park Meadow Road and Schrock Road, and can be seen from multiple locations around the City.

The fireworks display will be simulcast with 104.9 The River. For timing updates, follow the City of Westerville Twitter account: @tellwesterville.

Huge shout out to Rotary Club of Westerville! Learn more: https://westervillerotary.com/
