As the leaves start to turn and the nights cool, fall arrives, bringing beautiful days, like today, to Uptown Westerville.

Each season, like our trees and flowers, we watch the pale greens of early spring's leaf lettuce and asparagus blend into berries, radishes, and summer squash. Summer's bright sunlit colors arrive as tomatoes, melons, corn, peppers, eggplant, and peaches come to market. Now, as we enter the last weeks of the market (the market is open through October 31st), our summer crops are now complemented by the rich flavors of fall with winter squash, gourds, sweet potatoes, apples, and pumpkins echoing the deep, earthy colors of autumn leaves.

Our artisan foods make summer fare light and breezy and bring depth to autumn harvests.

Our vendors have a passion for what they do and they love to "talk shop." Vendors are happy to tell you about their product and answer any questions without pressure to buy (we know you'll do that on your own). So, don't hesitate to ask questions and by all means take advantage of tasting samples!

This week visit...

Northridge Organic Farm, Doran's Family Farm, Bird's Haven Farms, Flying J Farm, and Branstool Orchards for home-grown, Central Ohio (Licking County) produce.

Market Wednesday produce vendors sell organic, conventionally-grown, and chemical-free produce, just ask each vendor.  Northridge Organic Farm is certified organic.

For protein...

Fox Hollow Farm features naturally-raised beef, lamb, pork, chicken and fresh eggs.  Flying J Farm features grass-fed beef. Ohio Farm Direct sells trail bologna and summer sausage.

(Eggs are refrigerated and meats and poultry are sold packaged and frozen.)

Artisan foods include...

Sugar B Bakery (Galena) - Angela Bowman sells a variety of fresh-baked loaf breads and confections, including market favorite, Spinach Loaf.

Montezuma Brand (Columbus) - Chuck Evans market selection includes mild, medium, hot, and very hot salsas, hot sauces, rubs, marinades, and sauces, including barbecue sauce, and tortilla chips.

Sweet Thing Gourmet (Bexley) - Mark and Kyla Touris make biscotti and an amazing selection delicious jams and jellies.

Blue Jacket Dairy (Bellefontaine) - stop by to visit Julie George to taste Angel and Jim King's delicious farmstead artisan cheeses including flavored and non-flavored cheddar curds, chevre, and the always popular Gretna Grillin' cheese.

Pleiades Maple Products (Mt. Gilead) - EdDie Lou Meimer not only sells Ohio maple syrup, but also sells maple-coated nuts, maple sugar, maple-based spreads and sauces (including barbecue sauce), maple-coated puffed spelt, maple confections, and the market favorite maple sugar suckers (doesn't matter how old you are - they're good!)

Mockingbird Meadows (Marysville) - Dawn and Carson Combs sell delicious infused raw honey, herbal teas, herbal products, and personal care products made from edible ingredients.

Ohio Farm Direct (Fredericktown) - cheese and dairy (drinkable yogurt, raw milk) made from milk from grass-fed cows as well as trail bologna and summer sausage. So many varieties of cheese from mozzarella, cheddar, and colby to flavored cheeses like garlic & herb, lemon zest, and pepper jack.

Dana Lee's (Pataskala, a licensed bakery) - Dana bakes a variety of sweet and savory specialty breads, crackers, and confections - from croissants to giant brownies to market favorite artiboli.

Honey Health Farms (Marysville) - stop by to visit Dale Benedict and taste his delicious raw honey and honey products.  Dale's product selection includes comb honey, bee propolis, bee pollen, royal jelly, and honey-based personal care items.

As the holidays approach - our artisan foods make great host/hostess gifts as well as holiday gifts.  Keep our vendors in mind as you make out your holiday gift lists (or... who needs an occasion, these foods make great gifts anytime).

Anna Brown from Annabelle's Blooms (South Charleston, Clark County) will be at market today with her beautiful bouquets.

We also welcome the Westerville Senior Center to this week's market.

We will not see Bridgman Farm this week - Mary is keeping an eye on the weather in Fayette County - she has more coming on, but a cold spell might affect that. (Bridgman Farm is currently letting us know week to week if they'll be at market.)

Sue Renner of Sue's Kitchen will not be at market this week.  Sue has had a work schedule conflict recently, not on Wednesdays, but on Tuesdays - her baking day! We will see Sue this month on October 17th and 31st.

This week's specially-priced Market Wednesday Meza tasting is Sparkling Cava Sangria and Mulled Apple Cider! Stop by Meza, 48 N. State, for Tatjana's sangria tasting (and recipe) or for wine pairing suggestions.

Have a great week. 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. @ N. State and E. Home. See you at the market!
