Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: A Fond Remembrance

Flowers have spoken to me more than I can tell in written words. They are the hieroglyphics of angels, loved by all men for the beauty of their character, though few can decipher even fragments of their meaning. ~Lydia M. Child

As we look forward to our sixth season, we would like to take a moment to fondly remember one of our original vendors, Cliff Nishimura of Zenjiro Gardens of Athens.  Cliff passed away this past January. Cliff was an artist, veteran, father, and gardener who grew beautiful flowers, with a special touch for zinnias.

Back in 2006, Cliff supported the UWFM when the market was made up of a handful of vendors and just getting started.  Cliff even gave us our first "Farmers' Market Today" banner. We spoke with him in 2010 and thought we'd see Cliff and his beautiful flowers each Market Wednesday and, alas, Cliff decided on Upper Arlington's Wednesday market.

Cliff will always be a part of our market and we are all the better for knowing him.

With heartfelt care, respect, and gratitude, we say farewell and thank you to Cliff Nishimura, 1951 - 2011.
