Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: September 16th Market Report

It's Market Wednesday in Uptown Westerville! The
Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market is open for business from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at N. State & E. Home through October 28th.

The produce selection is colorful, flavorful, and plentiful! And, we are starting to see autumn squash like butternut and acorn and... pumpkins.

Jane Varley of Valley Valley shares this week's report:

September is a great time to visit the market. The summer produce is still available and the fall produce is just starting to come in. In addition, we typically have wonderful weather this time of the year.

Sarah has been busy picking wild grapes and turning them into wild grape jelly. If you have never had any, please stop by for a sample. It really doesn’t taste like the typical Concord grape jelly. The fruit is very sour so it makes a wonderful sweet and tart jelly. Sarah is planning to spend some time at the market tomorrow cleaning the latest batch of grapes. If you haven’t met Sarah (my bread apprentice and jam business partner), please stop by and say hello.

TODAY’S BREAD SELECTION

Challah -- $4.25
Cinnamon Swirl -- $4.50
Cinnamon Raisin Swirl -- $5.25
Lemon Swirl -- $5.75
Orange Swirl -- $5.50
Oatmeal Raisin -- $5.00
French Baguette -- $2.75
Totally Wheat -- $4.75
Birdseed Nut Totally Wheat-- $6.00
Angel Pinwheels (4) -- $5.00

See you at the market!

Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: September 2nd Market Report

It's a beautiful day in Uptown Westerville, so it must be Market Wednesday and the Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market will be open for business from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The colors and flavors of summer continue to reflect in the beautiful produce, flowers, and artisan foods from our market vendors.

This week, we will not see Sue's Kitchen, but Sue will be back next week with her great pies, cookie stacks, and coffee bread. (Check out Sue's blog
fromsueskitchen or follow Sue on twitter at suebakespies.)

And, Eddie Lou Meimer is involved in the Morrow County Fair, so we won't see Pleiades Maple Products this week, either.

Jane Varley of Varley Valley sends her market report:

We certainly have had some great weather recently. Sarah has been busy picking wild grapes and hopes to have some wild grape jelly next week. For those of you who don’t know, wild grapes are quite a bit different than the domesticated varieties. They are very small and quite tart. Their small size makes for a lot of labor but their tartness makes excellent jelly.

This week we added low sugar rhubarb jam and low sugar spiced tomato jam.

We will also have the following breads available at this week’s market:

Challah
Orange Swirl
Lemon Swirl
Cinnamon Swirl
Cinnamon Raisin Swirl
Oatmeal Raisin
Sourdough White --in both Italian and Baguette form
Rustic Sourdough (3/4 white flour and ¼ whole wheat flour) – in
Italian, Baguette, and Boule form
Totally Wheat
Parmesan Peppercorn Totally Wheat
Parmesan Herb Totally Wheat – this is a very mild loaf that is a great accompaniment for dinner
Birdseed Nut Totally Wheat – this is a form of our very popular Birdseed Nut Bread using all whole wheat flour. It is heavier than the standard Birdseed Nut Bread but has the same great crunchiness and taste.

We will also be offering tastes of sourdough bread using all whole wheat flour. We would love to get your feedback.

See you at the market!

Jane

Thanks, Jane!

The Horsts of Amherst Greenhouse will have their beautiful mums -- $5 per pot and the mums with ornamental grass pots are $20.

Dale Benedict of Honey Health Farms (if you haven't tasted Honey Health's raw honey yet, you are missing out!) will have autographed copies of his new book about Miss Moxie the Honeybee.

So, stop by for the peak of produce, meats for the grill, eggs, veggie burgers, fresh baked goods, chutneys, jams, jellies, cheese, raw honey, and to wash up for dinner, stop by Nature's Honey to check out Krista Wagner's wonderful natural ingredient soaps.

Thanks to the City of Westerville and Westerville Magazine for including the market in the September/October community calendar!

Remember, while you're uptown for the market to take a little time and Shop Uptown Westerville. Be sure to step carefully around the ladders at W. Main and N. State at the old Holmes Hotel.

Meza
, 48 N. State, always features a Market Wednesday $1 wine tasting and Tatjana Brown's selection of made-in-Ohio pantry foods are the perfect compliment to a wonderful meal. And, check out Amish Originals Furniture Co., 8 & 38 N. State, those great adirondack chairs we all love to sit on are now marked down 15% for end of season (in stock & while they last).
