Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: Honey Health Farms Miss Moxie

Dale Benedict of Honey Health Farms has authored a special book about honey bees, Miss Moxie The Amazing Honeybee.

Dale's cover model, Miss Moxie, is the subject of his new book about the benefits of honey and honeybees.

Humans and honeybees have had a beneficial relationship for ages. This enjoyable and interesting book, is for all ages, and in these green times, tells an important story to illustrate that even the tiniest creatures help hold up the world!

Dale will have copies of Miss Moxie available for sale at the Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market starting today.

Dale is currently self-publishing Miss Moxie's story and will make the book available for school, civic groups, and churches for fundraisers at a discounted price. For more info contact Dale 937.642.3164 or visit http://www.honeyhealthfarms.com/.

By the way, when you stop by Honey Health Farms, taste the honey!

Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: August 26th Market Report

It's a beautiful day in Westerville, Ohio and it could not be a more perfect day to visit the Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market.

A feast for the senses, a trip to the market is fun, relaxing, and an adventure. You never know who you'll meet, what new flavors you might taste, and what you might find!

10% of today's receipts from most market vendors will go to the Westerville South High School Athletic Boosters. Thanks to Mary Bridgman of Bridgman Farm (see the tomatoes above!) for her efforts.

Malabar Acres orchard is now a weekly market feature. Their peach crop may have been wiped out by a freeze, but their apples are plentiful, beautiful, and fresh-picked. Last week, they featured Granny Smith's and Cortland's.

This week, we welcome back Amherst Greenhouse -- their beautiful potted mums are something to behold and a good value.

Jane Varley of Varley Valley sent us her market report. Jane shares:

Hello everyone. I bought a bushel and a half of apples from Malabar Farms last week and have been busily making apple butter. If you haven’t tried some of Mike’s pesticide free apples stop by his tent this week. I was so busy with the apples I didn’t get a chance to make the low sugar rhubarb jam or the low sugar spiced tomato jam that I promised a few people. I will definitely have them for next week’s market.

It looks like it will be perfect weather so Sarah and I baked up a storm. I made my absolute favorite bread (to eat – not necessarily to make), jalapeno cheddar garlic. If you like the hot taste of jalapenos, stop by and try a sample.

Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: Varley Valley's August 5th Market Report

Jane Varley of Varley Valley shares her August 5th market report:

Blackberry season is coming to an end. Maybe our “war wounds” will finally heal. Between the thorns, mosquitoes, and chiggers Sarah feels like she has been through a battle, if not a full blown war. Elderberry season is now underway and we have been busy picking and juicing the berries. We hope to have some elderberry jelly soon.

I have been thinking about adding some fruit syrups to our product line. Let me know if this is something you would be interested in. The pricing would be similar to our jellies. The syrup could be used to top pancakes, French toast or ice cream. It can also be used in making drinks (such as blackberry margaritas – my brother’s special creation).

This week we have added the following Jams: Low sugar sweet cherry, low sugar blueberry, grapefruit marmalade, and brandied grapefruit marmalade. I know what you are thinking; it is out of season for grapefruit. Last winter, I froze the juice and the peels and have finally gotten around to the tedious chore of slicing the peels into itty bitty strips. If you like orange marmalade, stop by and try some of my grapefruit marmalade.
