Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: Market Space Access

We made some changes in the off-season when it comes to turning an active parking lot into a farmers' market.

Many of you may be familiar with the saga of the "Is this car yours or do you know who it belongs to?" interloping parker - that one car that shows up in the parking lot on market day that we end up setting the market up around because no one claims the car and moves it.

Additionally, last year, in spite of our best efforts, we had some cars try to drive through the actual market space.

This is all a relatively new phenomenon (past couple seasons) and the parking lot "cone-off" that worked for twelve years, no longer works, we want our customers and vendors to be safe, so time for a change.

So, here's what's changed:

- Officer Shellie Patrick of the Westerville Police Division will be setting up the market space for Wednesdays on Tuesdays.

- The market will post informational signs that the parking lot will be closed to public parking on Wednesdays from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for the market on Tuesdays.

- The E. Home Street parking lot access points will be closed on Wednesday mornings.

- The vendor pull-in spaces on the north side of the market space will be closed on Wednesday mornings.

- We want to keep the market space available for caregivers who drop-off and pick-up kids for Our Day Preschool and Vacation Bible School that take place at Messiah. So, caregivers can access the market space via the throughway along the south side of The Gathering Place, between N. State and the eastern parking lots. The market will replace the Tuesday night informational signs with an informational sign that states while the lot is closed to public parking, it is for Our Day and VBS drop-off and pick-up until 1:30 p.m.

- The lot access reserved for caregiver drop-off/pick-up will take place when Our Day Preschool is in session (this school year ends May 15th and the next school years begins the first week of September) and on June 26th for Vacation Bible School, otherwise access to the market space will be closed.

- Finally, the throughway from N. State Street to the eastern parking lots, along the south side of The Gathering Place will be closed when the market begins at 3:00 p.m. through market close at 6:00 p.m.

- Since the majority of the interloping parkers have been Otterbein University students. At the beginning of the next school year, the Otterbein University Police Department will notify students to avoid the parking lot on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during market season.

This is a theory right now, that is about to be tested with an active market day. We will adjust and adapt as we go.

Most important: Enjoy the Market. Be Safe.
