Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: Spring is Just Around the Corner

Spring is just a month away and the Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market 2011 season opens May 4th at 3 p.m. While there's snow on the ground and a chill in the air, our vendors are already sharing signs of spring.

Not only is Pleiades Maple tapping maple trees, but Dale Benedict of Honey Health Farms tells us, "We opened our beehives for the first time last week and are glad to report that the honeybees are doing really well!"

And, Ann Bird of Bird's Haven Farms shares, "At the moment, we are in midst of mud everywhere. Lee does have tomato plants about 4 inches tall growing in the small greenhouse and lettuce, onions, and peppers are growing, too. Smells so good when you walk into the greenhouse."

We can't wait.

The Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market 2011 Season is Wednesdays, May 4th through October 26th, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the corner of N. State and E. Home Streets in the Church of the Messiah parking lot.

See you at the market!

Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: Pleiades Maple Winter Report

Pleiades Maple Products' Eddie Lou Meimer shares:

Last week’s ice storm only caused minor damage in the sugarbush. Prayers were answered when the temps rose Wednesday a.m. and the rain washed the ice off the lines and tree branches. All the lines were already up and ready to go. My son Jim and his crew began tapping the trees yesterday and will continue today.

Batteries are charged and drills are ready to go for another day. Forecast for this weekend is good. If it really warms up into the forties the sap will flow.
