Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: June 22nd Market Report

Summer is a period of luxurious growth. To be in harmony with the atmosphere of summer, awaken early in the morning and reach to the sun for nourishment to flourish as the gardens do. Work, play, travel, be joyful, and grow into selfless service. The bounty of the outside world enters and enlivens us. [Paul Pitchford]

Welcome to the first Market Wednesday of Summer!

Today's vendor line-up: Lona Belle's Home Baked Goods, Doran's Family Farm, Hinton Apiaries, Flying J Farm, Bird's Haven Farms, Fox Hollow Farm, Pleiades Maple Products, Miss Cristy’s Bakery, Sweet Thing Gourmet, Montezuma Sauces and Salsas, Sugar B Bakery, Sippel Family Farm/Kokoborrego Cheese Co., 8 Sisters Bakery, and Fox Hollow Garden.

We will not see J-Pops this week (Steve will be back next week). And, Ohio Farm Direct is out.

This week's community partner is Westerville Public Library.

What produce can you find at the market today? Beets, radishes, swiss chard, kale, lettuce, turnips, sugar snap peas, cucumbers, and summer squash.

Artisan foods include hummus, fresh-baked bagels, bread, scones, cookies, pies & pastries, sheep's milk & cow's milk cheese, honey, maple syrup, jam, biscotti, salsas, hot sauce, and tortilla chips.

Market meats are available at Flying J Farm (grass-fed beef), Fox Hollow Farm (pasture-raised beef, pork, lamb, and chicken), and Sippel Family Farm/Kokoborrego Cheese Co. (lamb, grass-fed beef, whey-fed pork).

There may be fresh eggs available at Fox Hollow Farm. Jesse Rickard of Fox Hollow Farm recommends ordering eggs ahead of time online (so easy) to be sure.

Today's market weather report features cloudy skies, temperatures in the mid 70s (the elevated humidity pushes the "feels like" temps up to a muggy 5° to 6° higher), and a light breeze.

Right now, the forecast has changed from earlier this morning to only an elevated chance of rain (44%) between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Home grown. Home made. All Ohio. Wednesdays, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. through October 26th @ N. State and E. Home Streets in Uptown Westerville.

Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: June 15th Market Report

Weather forecast for tonight: dark. [George Carlin]

Today's weather? It's an adventure! We'll just do what we always do - we'll watch the radar, and roll along and adapt! Our vendors are all under-cover, and whether it's a puddle-jumping shop and dash, or a chance to linger and enjoy conversations and sample new or favorite flavors, we hope you'll stop by for a bit.

No way around it, we are looking at a typical Ohio summer forecast today - hot, humid, and a chance of isolated thunderstorms. Temperatures will be in the mid-80s and, with the humidity, the feels like will feel above 90°.

There is a light breeze expected, but we don't know if it will be sustaining or intermittent.

There is rain in the forecast, at this point, for this week's market, so let's just go hour to hour: from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.: 51% chance of rain; from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.: a 47% chance of rain; from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.: a 17% chance of rain.

This week's Vendor line-up includes: Fox Hollow Garden, Lona Belle's Home Baked Goods, Doran's Family Farm, Hinton Apiaries, Flying J Farm, Bird's Haven Farms, Fox Hollow Farm, Miss Cristy’s Bakery, Sweet Thing Gourmet, Montezuma Sauces and Salsas, Sugar B Bakery, and Sippel Family Farm/Kokoborrego Cheese Co.

We may see 8 Sisters Bakery and Ohio Farm Direct.

Pleiades Maple Products and J-Pops will not be at-market this week. (J-Pops will also be out next week.)

This week's community partners are Westerville Electric Division and Westerville Water Division - their appearance will be weather-dependent.

What produce can you expect at market this week? Beets (check out the golden beets), greens of all kinds, radishes, sugar snap peas, turnips, onions, garlic scapes, and cucumbers. We should see some strawberries, as well.

Each Wednesday, Meza Wine Shop, 48 N. State, just steps south of the market features a specially-priced Market Wednesday cocktail served during market hours. What wine goes with some Kokoborrego sheep's milk cheese? Just ask!

Market Wednesday is a rain or shine market, but not a storm or shine market, so we'll keep our eyes glued to the weather radar on our smart phones, and if we need to suspend market activity, we won't hesitate.  Any updates will be posted, here, on facebook.

Home grown. Home made. All Ohio. Wednesdays, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., through October 26th @ N. State and E. Home Streets in Uptown Westerville.

Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: June 1st Market Report

I love berries. Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, black berries, anything with an 'errie' in it! [Jordin Sparks]

It's a very good day to pick up a little farm fresh in Uptown Westerville.

We like a weather forecast that starts out with the words "periods of sun" with no chance of precipitation. With that said, we are headed for a classic, summery afternoon with temps in the mid-to-high 80s, elevated humidity, and a very light breeze.

Today's Market Wednesday vendor line-up: Montezuma Sauces and Salsas, Sugar B Bakery, Bildsten Landscape, 8 Sisters Bakery, Fox Hollow Garden, J-Pops, Lona Belle's Home Baked Goods, Doran's Family Farm, Hinton Apiaries, Ohio Farm Direct, Bird's Haven Farms, Fox Hollow Farm, Pleiades Maple Products, Miss Cristy’s Bakery, Sweet Thing Gourmet.

Market Wednesday's Vendor Mentoring program vendor, Fox Hollow Garden, will open for business today for the first time. Fox Hollow Garden features hummus and greens. Stop on by to meet David Kelly, and welcome him to Market Wednesday!

Life Happens. Nature Happens. Farming Happens. Sippel Family Farm/Kokoborrego Cheese Co. and Flying J Farm will not be at-market today - they both have to take advantage of the weather by getting work done on the farm (planting, baling, and hauling).

This week’s community partner is Westerville Senior Center.

A Market Wednesday tradition: just steps south of the market at 48 N State, each Wednesday, during market hours, Meza Wine Shop features a specially-priced cocktail. Meza is a great resource for wine pairing ideas for you market fare.

Home grown. Home made. All Ohio. Wednesdays, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. each through October 26th @ N. State and E. Home Streets in Uptown Westerville.

Browse. Visit. Taste. Shop. Enjoy. Market Wednesday.

See you at the market!

Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: Fox Hollow Garden, A Market Mentor Vendor

Welcome, Market Wednesday's Vendor Mentor Program vendor, David Kelly, of Fox Hollow Garden, featuring greens and artisan hummus.

The Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market is test-driving a brand new program this yearI

This market has a great group of experienced vendors, all of whom had to start somewhere!

With the Market Vendor Mentor Program, people who are new to farming, artisan foods, and farmers' markets can enter an atmosphere that will give them a step-up on the ins-and-outs of coming to market.

Participants have an opportunity to learn by immersion for a market season - diving into an active market and learning from both on-the-fly experiences and veteran vendors.

Veteran Market Wednesday vendors can nominate a new vendor for this program. This season, Market Wednesday welcomes David Kelly of Fox Hollow Garden, mentored by veteran vendor, Fox Hollow Farm.

Stop on by and meet David Kelly at today's market!
