Uptown Westerville Farmers' Market: Busy Weekend!


It's hard to believe that September is here. Football season has started, college to kindergarten - school is in, and Labor Day Weekend is just days away.

From Westerville's 9.11 Observance to Cops and Kids Day at Hoff Woods, there are so many community events the second weekend of September is a busy one, here are the highlight events:

Friday, September 11th: 


• 9.11 Memorial Observance: Remembering the Fallen, Protecting the Future.

12 p.m. First Responders Park, 374 W. Main (between the Senior Center and the Fire Station). The Westerville Divisions of Police and Fire Chaplain Corps invite the community to the sixth-annual 9.11 Memorial Observance on Friday, September 11th at 12 p.m. This annual ceremony takes place at the site where steel from the felled North Tower of the World Trade Center stands. It will also be one time of year three flags are raised from the 10th-anniversary Memorial Observance in 2011. Each flag was flown in a special location: the American flag was raised over the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C.; the state of Ohio flag flown over the State House in Columbus; and the City of Westerville was flown at Westerville City Hall.

• Uptown Westerville Friday Nights - Cruisin' Uptown.
A free family-friendly get-together. Starting at dinner-time. Participating Uptown merchants stay open until 8 p.m. Love vintage cars and hot rods? Join vintage car and hot rod enthusiasts as they gather Uptown every Friday evening - use an Uptown parking spot or join the crowd in the US Savings Bank parking lot (44 S. State between Winter St. and Hanby School across the street from city hall).

Friday, September 11th - Saturday, September 12th:


 • Great American Campout.
September 11th, 6:30 p.m. to September 12th, 9:00 a.m. Antrim Shelter @ Heritage Park, 60 N. Cleveland (near W. Main). Ages 4 and up. Admission: $15 per person. You have to register for this event to attend. Cookout dinner and breakfast provided. Bring your own gear. Activities.

Saturday, September 12th: 


• 9.11 Travis Manion Foundation Heroes 5k Run.

9:00 a.m., Alum Creek Park North, 221 W. Main. Admission: Fee to participate in the run/walk. Sign up and info: https://runsignup.com/Race/OH/Westerville/2014911HeroesRun 


The 9/11 Heroes Run 5K run/walk welcomes runners and walkers of all levels and of all ages. Events take place all over the world, on or near September 11th, and are 100% organized by local community volunteers.

• Household Hazardous Waste Collection.

8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Westerville Department of Public Service, 350 Park Meadow Rd. (north off Schrock Rd., between State St. and the Alum Creek bridge).

A well-organized opportunity to cast off the hard to cast off - flammables, toxics, reactives, electronics, fats/oils/grease, tires (4 per household), and corrosives. (Latex/water-based paints are accepted at a $1.00 per can fee.)

• Bargain Boutique and Maternity Sale.

9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Westerville Community Center, 350 N. Cleveland (@ County Line Rd. W.) Admission: a non-perishable food item which will be donated to a local food bank. Special parking info: Parking for event is at the Sports Complex with shuttle service available.

Buy or sell good usable maternity clothes, children clothing, toys and furniture for children of all ages.

Sunday, September 13th:


• Cops and Kids Day.

10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. @ Hoff Woods Park, 556 McCorkle Blvd. (between County Line Rd. E. and Maxtown Road). A free event.

At Cops & Kids Day kids get the chance to interact with the law enforcement community while learning about the equipment and technology that law enforcement personnel use.

Law enforcement officers from all over the state of Ohio bring cruisers, helicopters, motorcycles, K9 units, rescue units, and S.W.A.T. vehicles.

Kids can participate in games, police-related scenarios, and other fun activities including a "Dunk-a-Cop" tank.

The first 1,000 children receive a free Cops & Kids Day giveaway item.

• The Great Food Truck Fest.

Noon to 7 p.m. @ Nationwide Children's Hospital Close To Home, 455 Executive Campus Dr. (near N. Cleveland & County Line Rd. W.) A free event. Help WARM (Westerville Area Resource Ministry) put together 10,000 meal packets and enjoy music, kid-friendly activities and a gathering of food trucks.

• Military Service Appreciation Day @ Westerville Community Center.

12:00 p.m. to 5 p.m., Westerville Community Center, 350 N. Cleveland @ County Line Rd. W. For active and retired military and reserve personnel enjoy FREE access to the pool, gymnasium, zenith climbing wall, track, and fitness area. Immediate family members receive half-price admission for the day as well.
